Macau’s hotels recorded 9.79 million guests in the first nine months of this year, a year-on-year growth of 160.9 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
According to a DSEC statement, guestrooms’ average occupancy rate rose by 43.1 percentage points year-on-year to 80.6 percent in the nine-month period.
The number of hotels (including inns) at the end of September stood at 137, 17 more than a year earlier.
The number of available guestrooms grew by 22.2 percent to 46,000.
In September, the hotel sector recorded 1.13 million guests, a year-on-year growth of 158.2 percent. Guests from the mainland (813,000), Hong Kong (178,000) and Taiwan (30,000) increased by 144.2 percent, 917.7 percent and 873.7 percent respectively.
The local government began to gradually relax its COVID-19 prevention and control measures at the end of last year.
Guests from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan accounted for 89.9 percent of all guests.
The number of staycationers dropped by 41.5 percent to 46,000 in September.
On average, guests stayed 1.6 nights in September.
