Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) flags will fly at half-mast today to mourn the recent passing of former premier Li Keqiang, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) announced in a statement yesterday.
Li passed away in Shanghai last Friday, aged 68. His mortal remains will be cremated in Beijing today.
According to the statement, MSAR flags will fly at half-mast at Government Headquarters and Santa Sancha Mansion as well as all border checkpoints today.
According to Xinhua, Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 17th, 18th and 19th Communist Part of China Central Committees and former premier (March 2013-March 2023) “was extolled as an excellent CPC member, a time-tested and loyal communist soldier and an outstanding proletarian revolutionist, statesman and leader of the Party and the state.”
Li paid a three-day inspection visit to Macau in October 2016, during which he attended the fifth ministerial-level conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Forum Macao).
