Two non-resident workers (NRWs) from Vietnam have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a drug case, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The two suspects, surnamed Phan and Le, are in their thirties. Phan is a masseuse while Le is a male worker.
Chan noted that the police had been tipped off recently that drug activities were going in the Praça de Ponte e Horta (Si Ta Hau) neighbourhood. On Monday, patrolling officers noticed a woman, Phan, entering a building in the area and quickly leaving it. The officers intercepted her and discovered 1.1 grams of methamphetamine (ice) in her possession. Phan confessed that she had purchased the drugs from Le, a resident of the building, for 2,000 patacas.
Subsequently, during a search of Le’s flat, the police uncovered 6.73 grams of methamphetamine, along with the ice found on Phan, both with a combined street value of approximately 28,000 patacas.
Le admitted to selling the drugs to Phan, but did not disclose from where he got them. Phan said that she has a drug-taking habit. Chan noted that Phan and Le tested negative for drugs.
The two suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). They face drug-taking charges, while Le also faces a drug trafficking charge, Chan said.
