Three concurrent expositions incorporated into the “2023 China Macau Distinguished Gathering” (濠江盛匯) campaign concluded yesterday evening, having drawn a total of 140 exhibitors from the yacht, automobile and business aviation industries to showcase their latest products and services over the past four days, according to a statement by Nam Kwong Logistics Company Limited (Nam Kwong), one of the organisers.

The three expositions were the 13th China Macau International Yacht Import & Export Fair, the 13th China Macau International Automobile Exposition and the 12th Macau Business Aviation Exhibition, held respectively at the Coloane Yacht Berthing Area, Cotai Expo Halls of The Venetian Macao and Macau International Airport. While all three events began officially on Friday, the yacht show had its opening ceremony on Thursday.

In addition to Nam Kwong, China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) and the Macao Convention & Exhibition Association, which co-hosted all the three events, the automobile exposition was also co-organised by Sands China, while the business aviation exhibition included Melco Resorts and China Aviation Supplies Holding Company as its organisers.

The statement said that the three shows together attracted over 100,000 visitors, with letters of intent worth about 300 million patacas. It noted that each of those events served as a platform for participants to explore market trends of the respective industries, with the aim of promoting high-end consumption and enhancing the vitality of Macau’s tourism development.

Yacht fair promotes luxury leisure and nautical tourism

In the statement, Nam Kwong said that the four-day yacht fair, which featured over 40 luxury vessels from all over the world in the 55,000-square-metre exhibition area, had gathered representatives of various yacht market leaders to discuss the policy advantages of the yachting industry in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), in order to discover new development opportunities of the region.

Automobile expo highlights new energy vehicle market

At the three-day automobile exposition, more than 400 cars and motorcycles representing some of the largest luxury and commercial automotive brands from mainland China and elsewhere such as FAW Hongqi, GAC Motor, Changan, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Land Rover, Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai were displayed in the 65,000-square-metre exhibition area. The statement noted that the exposition put a primary focus on new energy vehicles and therefore featured a series of professional forums themed on smart traffic solutions, where automotive industry experts were invited to share thoughts on sustainable transport.

The term “new energy vehicle” (NEV) is mainly used in mainland China to designate plug-in electric vehicles or any automobiles that are predominantly powered by electric energy.

The event saw letters of intent for the purchase of about 600 vehicles, the statement added.

Flight exhibition exemplifies aviation sector’s recovery

The Macau Business Aviation Exhibition that showcased a wide range of private jets and planes from the world’s major aircraft manufacturers including Boeing, COMAC and Textron, attracted about 25,000 visitors, among which 25 percent were investors and professionals from the aviation industry, according to the statement. It quoted Pun Wa Kin, president of the Civil Aviation Authority (AACM), as saying in his opening remarks that the local airport’s business jet flight movements have nearly tripled in the past 10 years, making it one of the most competitive airports in the Asia-Pacific region. According to Pun, from January to October this year, the airport recorded 734 private and business charter flight movements, accounting for almost 30 percent of the number in the same period of pre-pandemic  2019, reflecting a “positive sign” of the industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
