An exhibition titled “XIV Autumn Salon” at the Lisbon-based Orient Foundation’s local Casa Garden premises is showcasing 92 selected art works by 45 artists who are working, studying and living in Macau.
On until November 26 and marking its 14th anniversary, a statement from Art For All Society Macau (AFA) noted that the exhibition showcases around a third of the works focusing on figurative expressions in traditional mediums including watercolours and ceramics, another third on abstract expressions mainly in painting, and lastly, the remainder focused on photography, 3D modelling, and installations, among others. The works, done by artists ranging from university art students to well-established artists, date back to 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Macau.
“The AFA Autumn Salon has been organised consecutively for fourteen years without interruption thanks to the remarkable resilience of the cultural actors demonstrated before, during and after the [COVID-19] pandemic. Artists, performers, and cultural organisations adapted to the challenges and found innovative ways to engage audiences”, according to the statement.
The statement added that this year “provides an opportunity to “celebrate and acknowledge the perseverance, adaptability, and creativity of individuals and institutions in the face of difficulties”.
Moreover, the exhibition also shows that artists in Macau are anchored in the “exploration of the figurative world” where Macau is their base, the statement noted.
The exhibition is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Mondays. More information can be found on the Orient Foundation’s Facebook page.
