Submissions are now open for the “1st Macao International Shorts Film Festival” until December 15, welcoming submissions from local residents, with the winner to be awarded a trophy and 40,000 patacas, according to a statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) on Friday.

The festival will be held next year and is organised by the bureau in conjunction with integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), the statement noted. The statement said that the event aims to encourage local film and TV production professionals, develop a wider selection of local films, and expand opportunities for international exchanges and cooperation.

The statement said that the screenings will be divided into “Macao Short Film”, “Emerging Short Film” and “Filmmaker in Focus” segments, with each session led by senior filmmakers who will form a jury, host workshops and seminars to create “an international platform for exchanges and screenings of short films, and to actively promote local film and television productions”.

Proposals will be evaluated by the festival’s organising committee, with shortlisted works to be screened during the “Macao Short Film” section and to compete for the “Macao Unit Award” for the trophy and pecuniary award, according to the statement.

Programme regulations and the application form can be found on www.icm.gov.mo or www.macaucci.gov.mo. The statement said that applicants shall send their submissions to the Cultural Affairs Bureau in Praça do Tap Seac on or before 5:45 p.m. on December 15, or email the scanned application documents to MISFF_msfu@icm.gov.mo, according to the requirements on or before 11:59 p.m. on the day.
