The Judiciary Police (PJ) received a report from the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday morning that a local elderly man attempted suicide by hanging himself in his flat in Seac Pai Van district earlier that day. He died of his wounds yesterday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement.
According to the statement, the deceased’s family members discovered that he locked the door to his room from the inside. His family found this behaviour unusual and therefore called the police for assistance.
Police officers arrived and broke into the room, where they discovered the victim hanging from the upper bunk bed using a belt. Subsequently, firefighters rushed the victim to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for medical treatment. He passed away around 6 a.m. yesterday.
According to the statement, the deceased had suffered from an illness. After examining the body, no other suspicious injuries were found.
The statement said that a post-mortem examination will be performed.
