The Public Security Police (PSP) announced yesterday that 2,315 jaywalkers, i.e., pedestrians crossing the road illegally, were recorded between January and October this year, a year-on-year growth of 260.62 percent from the 755 cases in the first 10 months of last year.
Macau recorded 11,099 traffic accidents in the first 10 months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 19.51 percent, according to statistics released by the PSP on their website, which noted seven fatal traffic accidents among the total number.
In the first 10 months of this year, the PSP recorded over 594,900 cases of breaching the road traffic law, resulting in fines totalling over 145 million patacas, a rise of about 24 percent year on year. Among the cases, according to the PSP statistics, 88 drivers were fined for using their car illegally as a vehicle for hire, showing a rapid growth of over 1,157 percent year on year from the just seven cases recorded in the first 10 months of last year.
The Public Security Police recorded more than 542,700 cases of illegal parking in the first 10 months of this year, a year-on-year growth of around 24 percent from the about 439,400 cases between January and October last year.
As for taxi violations, 478 cabbies were given penalties in the first 10 months of this year, an increase of about 425 percent year on year, of which 15 and 192 taxi drivers were fined for overcharging and refusal to accept passengers respectively.
