The residential project has been mothballed since the government decided in 2015 to axe the ill-fated development’s temporary land concession that had expired. The government has repeatedly said that the issue must be solved in strict adherence with the Land Law. The developer, Hong Kong-based Polytec, is suing the government over the matter.
Local media reports in December 2015 quoted lawmaker-cum-lawyer Leonel Alves as saying that Lau had told lawmakers in 2013 during a meeting of the legislature’s 1st standing committee there would be a solution to the concession once it expired.
