A local man in his mid-eighties has been apprehended for stealing a wallet he had found in the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect is surnamed Mak.
According to Leong, on November 8, a male non-resident worker (NRW) reported to the police that he had left his wallet, containing 7,000 patacas and his blue card (work permit), on a bench near Avenida de Artur Tamagnini Barbosa earlier that day and could not find it when he went back to look for it. The police later scrutinised CCTV footage from the area and discovered that Mak, 84, had picked up the wallet.
Mak was arrested on Monday. He refused to cooperate.
Mak has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, Leong said.
