Sands China donates 300k patacas to Caritas bazaar & charity run

Integrated resort (IR) operator Sands China said in a statement on Wednesday that it has recently donated a total of 300,000 patacas to Caritas Macau in support of its 54th Charity Bazaar and the 2023 Charity Run.

The company has made donations to the Catholic welfare organisation since 2004 and this time marked the 20th consecutive year of the donations, helping to support Caritas Macau’s operational expenses and its efforts to develop and implement social services in the community.

According to the statement, the company donated 100,000 patacas to Caritas for the charity run, which raised funds for its new elderly care service programmes, at a cheque presentation ceremony on October 29 on the University of Macau (UM) campus. 

The statement noted that a ceremonial cheque was presented by Sam Chongnin, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Sands China Ltd., to Carias Macau Secretary-General Paul Pun Chi Meng. Sands Cares Ambassadors also showed their support by attending the ceremony and participating in the run. 

Meanwhile, Sands China donated 200,000 patacas to Caritas Macau for its 54th Charity Bazaar, which was this year themed “Cultivating Kindness Together, Sharing with Charity”, the funds raised are to be used to develop a new social service. The statement said that Sands China Executive Vice President of Operations Sean McCreery presented a ceremonial cheque to Pun during the bazaar’s opening ceremony on November 4 at the Nam Van Nautical Centre.

The statement added that 115 Sands Cares Ambassadors volunteered at the bazaar from November 4-5, running a game booth to raise funds for the NGO. The booth’s takings will be donated to Caritas Macau without deducting costs. Those taking part in the games won prizes such as hotel accommodation and tickets to teamLab SuperNature Macao at The Venetian Macao, the statement said.

Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted by the statement as saying: “It is a pleasure for Sands China to continue supporting the important work that Caritas does in the community, and our thanks go to our team members and their families for their support of these annual Caritas Macau initiatives.”

Meanwhile, Pun thanked the company for its long-standing support, adding: “It is their dedication that allows us to continue to give assistance to those who are in need through our community services”, according to the statement.
