Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a statement yesterday that outstanding staff members were awarded at the Because We Care Team Member Annual Awards Ceremony 2023, which was held on November 22 at The Venetian Macao.
The statement noted that the awards “recognise individuals and teams who embody the cultural values of Sands China’s Because We Care service philosophy, demonstrating exceptional dedication and excellence”. Inaugurated in 2013, the awards honour staff who exemplify the company’s culture of service, which is built on four core values: We Are Friendly, We Are Professional, We Are Active Listeners, and We Are One Team.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the company’s Because We Care service culture, the award process mechanism and award categories were transformed. The company “implemented a strengthened recognition system for the culture of service, incorporating a new ‘compliment’ element that extends from individuals to departments throughout the entire company”, according to the statement.
According to the statement, the nomination process for awards engaged staff from all levels of the company’s operation. This year saw an impressive number of over 1,700 individual and team nominations.
During the voting process, an overwhelming 58,000 votes were cast on the recognition platform, the statement said, which enabled staff to review the inspiring stories of the shortlisted nominees and endorse individuals and teams based on the Because We Care core values, among others.
A committee then meticulously selected the top 100 nominees – some as individuals and some as teams, totalling over 770 team members –to move on to the contest’s final stage.
During the ceremony, winners were announced for People’s Choice Award, Active Listener Award, Best Team Player Award, Professional Award, Manager of the Year, Outstanding Team Award, and this year’s three new categories – New Team Member Award, Fellowship Award, and the prestigious ‘Because We Care’ Premium Award, the statement noted.
The ceremony was attended by nearly 600 staff. Winners received trophies and cash prizes, among other rewards, valued at nearly 900,000 patacas.
Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted as congratulating nominees and winners, pointing out that “their exceptional contributions embody the company’s service philosophy and exemplify Sands China’s commitment to delivering unparalleled experiences to guests and fostering a culture of care and excellence within the organisation”.
