The 14th Macau International Short Film Festival kicked-off yesterday at Teatro Capitol in Rua Pedro Nolasco da Silva, with the event taking place until next Wednesday.
The free-admission festival is jointly organised by the Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM) and CREATIVE MACAU – Centre for Creative Industries.
A press conference was held at the cinema prior to the opening ceremony. It was joined by several finalist filmmakers who submitted their entries to the festival, along with Swedish movie director and writer Alexe Landgren as well as German animation filmmaker and writer Malte Stein, both of whom are grand jury members of this year’s festival.
Landgren and Stein also gave an introduction to their masterclasses that will be held during the festival’s symposium next Tuesday, along with SHORTS Grand Jury Panel Chair, Festival Committee member and TDM Director of the Portuguese News and Programme Division João Francisco Pinto.
With filmmakers and members of the jury from different parts of the world again able to attend the event, Festival Director and founder-cum-coordinator of CREATIVE MACAU Lúcia Lemos told The Macau Post Daily on the sidelines of the press conference that she was very excited about this year’s festival.
She added that festival-goers can look forward to seeing a “diversity of topics”, themes, narratives and visuals presented through the entries. One may also see other aspects such as acting and script-writing through the submissions, Lemos added.
Following the press conference, an opening concert was held along with the screening of the opening film “The Bank Loan” from Spain, followed by the first set of short films in the fiction category.
