A local man in his sixties has been apprehended for stealing a smartphone left by a fellow passenger on a bus, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Sin works as a cleaner.
According to Leong, on October 18, a female resident reported to the police that she had left her phone worth 9,500 patacas on a bus. The police later scrutinised CCTV footage from the bus and discovered that Sin had picked up the phone.
Sin was summoned to a police station for questioning on Sunday. He admitted to stealing the phone. Police retrieved the phone from his home in Areia Preta.
Sin has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, Leong said.
