A tour coach parked in the underground loading bay of Tap Seac Square for heavy passenger buses caught fire for unknown reasons yesterday afternoon, and no one was injured during the incident, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement yesterday.

The statement said that the Fire Services Bureau (CB) received a report at 3:59 p.m. about the blaze yesterday and arrived at the spot four minutes later.

The statement said firemen found the bus on fire, and the fire was intense with a huge cloud of black smoke. The fire was extinguished at 4:27 p.m.

After inspection, the fireman identified the fifth row of seats behind the driver’s seat as the fire’s point of origin, and the tour coach was badly damaged, the statement said.

No one was taken to hospital during the incident, the statement said.

According to police reports, the underpass reopened to vehicular traffic at 4:55 p.m. The incident resulted in a major traffic jam for more than an hour, drivers said.
