The government has clarified that once the lists of candidates for the legislature’s direct and indirect elections are confirmed, the candidates are prohibited from carrying out any election campaign activities until the official start of the 14-day campaign period, the Legislative Assembly’s 2nd Standing Committee President Andrew Chan Chak Mo said yesterday.

Chan briefed reporters after a closed-door meeting of the committee with government officials on the draft of the government’s Legislative Assembly Election Law amendment bill in the legislative chamber.

Customarily, the meetings of the legislature’s standing committees are held behind closed doors. Usually, the committee presidents brief the media afterwards.
