Melco Resorts & Entertainment has recently been named one of the top 10 most sustainable hospitality companies in the “3rd Greater China Hotel Business Sustainability Index” (Hotel BSI), according to a statement from the integrated resort operator last week.

The term “Greater China” comprises the four Chinese regions of the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

The statement noted that the index was launched by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School’s Centre for Business Sustainability (CBS) and aims to engage hotel companies in “the continuous optimisation of CSR hotel practices, sustainable development and concurrent growth for both businesses and society”.

The statement said that the index shows the composite score of the annual sustainability performance of 30 listed hotel companies in “Greater China” and six large international hotel chains, with scoring based on the four aspects under the VPI model:  Value, Process (Management & Practice), and Impact.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung was quoted in the statement as saying: “We are thrilled that our ongoing endeavours to integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of our business operations have been acknowledged with this prestigious award. Melco has outlined a clear roadmap and action plan for achieving our ambitious goal of carbon neutrality and zero waste by 2030. Our ‹Above & Beyond› sustainability strategy continues to propel new initiatives that will help us make progress on these important objectives.”
