The 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta is slated to take place from January 11-14, with around 300 sailors from 28 countries and regions set to compete in three different competitions, the Sports Bureau (ID) said in a statement yesterday.

The contests the sailors are set to compete in, the statement noted, are the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 Unified Design Group) and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC Group), where 11 teams in each of the two categories will complete in the waters south of Hac Sa Beach.

The International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 Unified Design Group), meanwhile, will have 15 teams participating in the International Catamaran Invitational to compete for the championship in the waters south of the Inner Harbour fairway off the Macau Science Centre, according to the statement.

The four-day event is organised by the bureau in conjunction with integrated resort (IR) operator MGM and Ursa Major Sailing Event Management, both of which will cover the expenses.

The statement added that internationally certified judges from the International Sailing Federation were invited to join the event. Meanwhile, a fleet parade and a photography contest will also be held, aiming to raise public’s awareness and interest in the sport of sailing and to promote the development of marine sport in Macau, according to the statement.
