Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun announced yesterday that the “2023 Galaxy Entertainment Group Asia & Greater Bay Area Racing Festival”, organised in conjunction with the Automobile General Association of Macao-China, will take place from Friday through Sunday, at the Coloane Karting Track.

Having been suspended for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the motor-racing event, title-sponsored by integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), will feature seven races, comprising three karting races, namely ROK GP Junior, KZ, and X30 Senior 125 Class, and four motorcycle races, namely, Mini Bike, 150-190cc, 250 cc, and Greater Bay Area Motorcycle Cup 150cc, according to yesterday’s press conference at the ID headquarters in Zape.

The event is aimed at enhancing competitive exchanges between local and non-local racers, while strengthening the younger generation’s awareness of motorsport and thus to carry forward Macau’s motor-racing culture, according to Pun, who noted that the Coloane Karting Track has been an important training base for the Macau Grand Prix (MGP). He pointed that many racing events are held every year at the Coloane Karting Track to train drivers and riders, as well as staff.

The three-day motor-racing event has attracted 100 drivers and riders from the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Chinese Taipei, as well as Singapore and the Philippines.

Entry is free for spectators to experience the thrill of motorsport, the press conference noted.
