The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) said in a statement yesterday that it expects the construction of a flyover connecting the Zone A land reclamation area and the peninsula near the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal in Zape to get off the ground in the second quarter of next year.

The flyover is officially known as A3.

The government launched a public tender in October for the project. Potential bidders were required to submit their quotations by Wednesday.

A total of 10 construction companies had submitted their bids, which were unsealed by DSOP officials yesterday. All bids were accepted.

The winning bidder will be required to carry out the project’s final design first before starting the construction.

Yesterday’s DSOP statement announced that the quotations for the project (final design plus construction) proposed by the 10 bidders range from 528 million to 687 million patacas.

The tender has set a maximum period of 950 working days for the completion of the project, with the first 150 working days earmarked for the completion of its final design.

Yesterday’s statement announced that the final design and construction periods proposed by the 10 bidders range from 855 to 885 working days.

Currently, Zone A is only connected to the peninsula via the busy Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade), on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast, i.e., an area in the densely populated Areia Preta district.

The government plans to have a total of four vehicular links between Zone A and the peninsula, namely A1, A2, A3, and AB.

The A1 Link refers to the current vehicular connection between Zone A and the Oriental Pearl roundabout, while the A2 Link refers to a two-way flyover that will connect Zone A and an area near the Macau Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant. The A2 flyover project, which got off the ground in November last year, is scheduled to be completed in October next year.

The AB Link refers to a two-way flyover that will connect Zone A and an area near the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape. The AB flyover project is scheduled to get off the ground also in the second quarter of 2024.

4 spurs

According to the DSOP website, the two-way A3 flyover will have four spurs – two entrances and two exits – on the peninsula side. All four spurs (aka ramps) will be one-way traffic only.

Spur A will enable vehicles to travel from Areia Preta district to Zone A via Friendship Bridge, while Spur B will enable vehicles to travel from Avenida da Amizade to Zone A via Friendship Bridge’s ramp.

Spur C will run from Zone A to Avenida da Amizade, while Zone D will run from Zone A to the road network outside the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal.

In addition, according to the website, the A3 flyover will also be connected to the future fourth Macau-Taipa Bridge that will connect the Zone A and Zone E1 land reclamation areas.

The ongoing fourth Macau-Taipa Bridge project is now scheduled to be completed next March.

The A3 flyover will have a total length of around 750 metres.
