A 58-year-old woman died after she was hit by a lorry in Istmo de Ferreira do Amaral, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on Saturday, adding that the victim, a local resident, was suspected of having failed to obey a traffic light signal when crossing the road.
The accident happened at about 5:51 p.m. on Saturday, when the vehicle travelling along Istmo de Ferreira do Amaral towards Estrada do Arco hit the victim who was crossing the road disobeying the traffic signal near Choi Nong Chi Tai School, according to the statement.
The statement noted that the victim, who was not breathing and profusely bleeding from a head laceration and had no noticeable heartbeat after the accident, was rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for emergency treatment, which, however, failed to save her life.
The statement said that the driver is a local resident.
