JW Marriott Hotel Macau and The Ritz-Carlton, Macau at Galaxy Macau in Cotai are reinforcing their commitment to sustainability through the initiative to eliminate single-use shower toiletry bottles from hotel guestrooms, which it has already completed, the hotel operator said in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement noted that the sustainability-driven effort is “in line with Marriott International’s commitment to environmental stewardship, showcasing the properties’ dedication to reducing plastic waste and promoting a greener future”.
The hotels have introduced new, large amenity bottles with a convenient “pump” design, with each bottle containing the same amount of product as about 10 to 12 single-use bottles, according to the statement. The statement said that the large bottles reduce plastic waste and allow recycling alongside other basic containers such as plastic soft-drink bottles.
The statement added that the shower amenities initiative builds upon the hotels’ ongoing sustainability efforts and aligns with Marriott International’s Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction platform.
JW Marriott Hotel Macau and The Ritz-Carlton, Macau Vice President of Operations Rauf Malik was quoted in the statement as saying: “This global initiative to eliminate single-use plastics and the milestone achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to minimising our environmental footprint and making a positive impact on the planet. Sustainability is a top priority for us.”
