The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) announced on their website last night that its cold shelter, upon the issuance of a Yellow or Orange* cold weather alert, has opened.
The shelter is located at 34 Rua Leste da Ilha Verde, Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde (青洲東街34號青洲坊大廈E1的避寒中心).
Late last night, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced its Yellow cold weather alert, which denotes that it is “cold” in Macau. The local observatory noted that the temperature today is forecast to range between 12 °C and 17 °C. Members of the public, especially seniors, children and people with chronic illnesses were reminded to put on more clothes and stay warm.
For more information, one can visit the local observatory and IAS’s websites.
At 1:05 a.m. today, the mercury stood at 13.8 oC in Dr. Sun Yat Sen Municipal Park near the shelter.
*The orange cold weather alert signifies that it is “very cold” in the city.
