An exhibition entitled “U38 Young Female Artists Exhibition” is taking place at the Albergue SCM —  A2 Gallery in Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro, showcasing 20 artworks by six female artists from Macau and the mainland.

Aiming to foster dialogue from an international perspective, with a special focus on the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the works on display have been created by Huang Yin, Kit Lei Ka Ieng, Lu Beimei, Guo Mengyao, Wong Wengio and Xie Lisi, according to a statement from Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (Circle of Friends of Macau’s Culture), the organisers of the exhibition.

All of the artists are aged under 38, the statement noted, while the 20 works “embody the female perspective of contemporary art”. The “refreshing feminine spirit” that women bring forth as they continue to climb the professional ladder is also the theme that the exhibition hopes to explore and discuss, according to the statement.

Moreover, the statement pointed out that the exhibition aims to demonstrate the “international practices and spiritual strength of contemporary young female artists, nurturing a rich and sustainable trend in humanistic development and continuously empowering cultural exchanges” in the GBA.

The free-admission exhibtion is on until February 28 and is open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on other days.

Albergue is Portuguese for “hospice”. SCM stands for Santa Casa da Misericórdia (“Holy House of Mercy”), Macau’s oldest charitable organisation.
