Integrated resort (IR) operators Sands China and MGM have announced in separate statements that a discretionary bonus equivalent to one month’s pay will be paid to their eligible staff members.
In Sands China’s statement, the company said that the discretionary bonus will be paid on January 31 to non-management team members who have been with the company for one year or more, while the discretionary bonus for management team members will be based on the company’s Management Incentive Plan, the statement said.
The statement added that staff who have worked for the company for less than a year will receive prorated bonuses if they joined Sands China before October 1, 2023, and are still employed on the bonus pay out date.
Sands China also announced that a salary increase will take effect on March 1, benefitting 99 percent of their 26,000 staff. Eligible full-time staff members earning salaries up to 13,000 patacas before tax will receive a pay rise of 600 patacas, an increase of between 4.7 and 5.4 percent, while those earning monthly salaries over 13,000 patacas before tax will receive a 2.5 percent pay rise, according to the statement.
Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted in the statement as saying: “At the heart of our thriving company stands a remarkable team. Our team members’ resilience and collective spirit have not only guided us through the trials of recent years, but also propelled us into a period of rejuvenation”. Wong also highlighted the milestones in 2023 that staff members made possible through their unwavering dedication.
Meanwhile, according to the MGM statement, a discretionary bonus will be paid around the Chinese New Year (CNY), adding that over 95 percent of its staff will receive it.
MGM MACAU also hosted a celebration for its 16th anniversary at Grande Praça in appreciation of the dedication and commitment of its staff, which was joined by MGM China Holdings Limited Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho Chiu King and management staff, the statement said.
Ho was quoted as saying: “Over the past 16 years, MGM has been making many great moments and pioneering countless breakthroughs in Macau. All these achievements could only be made possible through the devotion of around 12,000 members of the Golden Lion team.
Ho added: As we are going to rejoice the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland in 2024, we are set for more development potential”, adding that it will participate in more events and activities, while its properties will “undergo full-scale upgrades”.
Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and president of MGM Resorts International and co-chairperson and executive director of MGM China Holdings Limited, also sent his congratulatory remarks on video.
