A puppet show entitled “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” based on the popular children’s book is set to take place for five shows on February 3-4 at the Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Small Auditorium, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday.

The statement noted that the show is inspired by the stories created by American author, designer and illustrator of children’s books Eric Carle (1929-2021). The show will plunge children and their families into “a parade of 70 plus puppets” created by Carle throughout his career, which spanned over half a century, according to the statement.

The statement added that Carle’s illustrated book, which launched his art worldwide, has sold over 50 million copies with the illustrations created using a mix of tissue-paper collages and drawings, techniques that he also used for other best-selling stories.

The upcoming show has been created by Australian/American producer Jonathan Rockefeller, and is now produced by a Shanghai based company, the statement said.

The show, aimed at children aged two and above, will be presented in English with Chinese subtitles. Tickets will be sold from this Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Macao Ticketing Network. More details can be found on www.icm.gov.mo and www.ccm.gov.mo, or by calling 2840 0555.
