The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a male gambler from the mainland for snatching casino chips worth a total of HK$118,500 from the same gambling table on two occasions at a casino in Cotai, PJ spokesman Chong Kam Leong said during a special press conference on Saturday.

According to Chong, in the first incident, the 33-year-old suspect, surnamed Guo, snatched chips worth HK$100,000 from the gambling table, after the casino dealer in charge of the table failed to stop him. Chong added that Guo was then intercepted by casino staff and security guards when he returned to the gambling table and began to snatch more casino chips.

Under questioning, Guo told the police that he snatched the chips from the table because of his gambling losses.

Guo was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Saturday, according to Chong.

As Guo, who works as a sales representative for a pharmaceuticals company, refused to cooperate with the police in their investigation, he also faces a charge of disobeying the authorities, in addition to a robbery charge.
