A local coach driver was arrested for insulting a police officer after he was fined for illegal parking, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect, surnamed Chao, is in his sixties.
According to Lai, on Thursday morning, a PSP officer was patrolling Avenida do Governador Jaime Silvério Marques in Nape when he noticed an illegally parked tourist coach on a solid yellow line. The officer proceeded to issue a fine to the driver, Chao. Initially, Chao pleaded with the officer, requesting a “second chance.” However, the officer denied his request.
Following the denial, Chao suddenly became aggressive and began using vulgar language to insult the officer. He also questioned the officer’s “selective law enforcement,” claiming that no other illegally parked vehicles were ticketed at the scene.
Lai noted that the other coaches illegally parked at the location had been fined by the same police officer. Upon the arrival of other officers at the scene, Chao was arrested.
Chao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of aggravated insult and disobedience, according to Lai.
