UM students win 2nd runner-up in 2023 Campus News Awards

The University of Macau (UM) said in a statement yesterday that a team of fourth-year students from the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) Department of Communication won second runner-up in the two English categories of the 2023 Campus News Awards, which is now in its 12th edition.

The award was organised by China Daily Hong Kong edition, the statement noted. The students won second runner-up for their publication “UM Bridges 2023—Élan” in two English-language Categories, namely “Best in News Writing” and “Best in Art and Culture News Reporting”, particularly for the articles “Culture on Your Hands” and “Inheriting Cultural Identity” respectively.

The publication was created by seven fourth-year Department of Communication students led by their instructor José Carlos Matias.

The statement said that the award ceremony was hosted at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou campus). Fourth-year students Li Xu and Lam Ieng Ieng from the Department of Communications of FSS and UM’s Cheong Kun Lun College attended the ceremony on behalf of their team, along with Matias, who noted that he was proud of the winning students.

The statement said that 3,600 students from 84 universities in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan participated as team members in this year’s Campus News Awards, that received over 1,000 entries.
