A mainlander man arrested on Tuesday for stealing cash from from the donation box of Ma Kok (A Ma) Temple Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on that day.
The donations are a traditional way of paying for joss sticks, candles, lamp oil, joss paper and other items for worshipping in a temple.
The suspect is a non-resident worker (NRW). The statement did not reveal his age or his job.
The statement said that the Public Security Police received a report from a security guard at Ma Kok Temple at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, reporting that after the temple had closed, a man had sneaked into the temple and attempted to steal cash from the donation box.
The police arrived at the scene and intercepted the man whom they took to a police station for questioning.
According to the statement, on that night the temple reported a loss of 200 patacas from the donation box.
