Local history academic Lam Fat Iam yesterday urged schools to teach local history, to give young people a better understanding of what happened in the city in the past.
Lam made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a forum to mark the 40th anniversary of the so-called 123 incident, a riot by residents sparked by the then Portuguese administration’s bungled handling of an application for permission to build a school in Taipa.
The forum, organised by the grassroots New Macau Association (NMA), was held at the Portuguese Bookshop, where Lam was a guest speaker.
