Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong announced in a regular press conference on Monday that a non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland has been arrested for allegedly attempting to cover for another rider in jumping a red light.

The 40-year-old suspect, surnamed Feng, is as a delivery worker.

According to Lam, the incident occurred last March when a motorcycle ran a red light in Avenida do Ouvidor Arriaga. The police subsequently issued a fine to the owner of the motorcycle, who failed to pay the fine on time.

Last October, the police received a referral from the Court of First Instance (TJB) to follow up on the case. It was later discovered that Feng, who claimed to be the rider, was not in Macau at the time of the incident.

Feng was arrested when he attempted to pay the fine at a police station last Wednesday. Under questioning, Feng told the police that he was instructed by his employer to own up to the offence. However, Lam noted that the police were still investigating whether the rider involved in the incident was his employer or not.

Feng has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of aiding and abetting the perpetration of an offence, Lam said.
