The 2024 Sands China Macao International 10K is slated to take place on March 17, with registration to open from 9 a.m. on February 3, and at 9 a.m. on February 4 for the Fun Run category, the Sports Bureau (ID) said in a statement yesterday.
The statement noted that there will be 3,000 places available for the Fun Run and 7,000 spots for the 10K, and will start at 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. respectively at Sai Van Lake Square and finishing inside the Olympic Sports Centre’s stadium in Taipa. The event will also see the return of “The FUNkiest Costume Award”, this year themed “Magic Run”.
More details are available on www.macao10k.com or the “Macao 10K” mobile app. Would be participants, the statement said, need to have a personal ‘Macao International 10K’ or ‘Macao International Marathon’ account. Those without an account can create one. Bibs and other race items can be collected at the Olympic Sports Centre – Indoor Pavilion between March 13 and 16.
The event is jointly organised by the bureau, title-sponsor Sands China Ltd. and General Association of Athletics of Macau (AGAM), with expenses borne by the integrated resort operator, according to the statement.
Event details were announced during a press conference yesterday at The Londoner Macao, the statement said, during which Sports Bureau President Pun Weng Kun remarked that with the cooperation of the organisers, the event will be even more successful with more distinctive features, thus making the event, which has always been popular among local and overseas long-distance running enthusiasts, become another representative sporting event in the city.
Sands China President and Executive Director Wilfred Wong Ying-wai said as Macau’s tourism industry recovered rapidly last year, it is hoped that the event can mark another success for Macau and attract athletes from all over the world.
