Hennessy said in a statement earlier this week that it has launched the limited-edition collection inspired by a digital art piece created by mainland Chinese artist Yang Yongliang called “Dragon’s Odyssey” to welcome the Chinese New Year (CNY).

The statement noted that Yang combined traditional drawings with digital art, breathing life, movement, energy and fire into “a collective of metallic dragons dancing in and out of waves”. They feature a three-dimensional element that brings out textures of the dragon’s skin and teeth, while each bottle’s colour embodies the aspirations of the new year: red for joy and luck, and gold for prosperity.

The artist grew up in an old water town in Greater Shanghai and was trained in traditional Chinese landscape painting, the statement said, studying digital and three-dimensional art in college. He is known for mixing traditional Chinese art with contemporary, innovative digital technology.

Yang was quoted in the statement as saying: “My inspiration for this collection comes from my special fondness for dragons –they’re so symbolic and legendary, and I grew up hearing stories about them. When I was a young boy, my grandmother gave me an antique coin with a dragon on it. I wanted to share that memory in this Hennessy collaboration, and that’s why the dragon has a metallic surface, like a childhood memory of seeing a dragon on a coin”.

The bottles are available in V.S.O.P, X.O and Paradis, a collectable decanter in an oak giftbox. The statement said that the Hennessy Paradis comes in a handcrafted porcelain decanter created by Bernardaud, featuring gold dragon artwork. Meanwhile, Hennessy Paradis CNY 2024 Limited Edition is available for private clients, enquiries available can be made to privateclients@mhdhk.com.

Meanwhile, the “Hennessy Year of the Dragon Dinner” was hosted in collaboration with integrated resort operator City of Dreams Macau, at Yí earlier this week for media and VIPs. It featured a pairing menu with Hennessy cognac collections and seasonal produce.
