The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said on Friday that three kinds of Quaker Oatmeal Squares products originating from the US were possibly contaminated with salmonella, urging the public not to consume them.

According to Friday’s statement, no products of the problematic batches are available for sale in the local market, but due to the wide range of product sales channels, the bureau does not rule out the possibility that retailers or members of the public have bought the problematic products.

The statement noted that the three salmonella-contaminated products are named “Quaker Oatmeal Squares – Honey Nut Flavour”, “Quaker Oatmeal Squares – Cinnamon Flavour” and “Quaker Oatmeal Squares – Original Flavour”, with a net weight of 14.5 ounces (0.41 kg) and a best-before-date between January 10, 2024 and October 1, 2024.

Salmonella infectees may develop gastrointestinal symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, the statement warned, adding that people with weakened immune systems, such as infants and senior citizens, may come down with even more severe symptoms.

The statement underlined that IAM officials have been dispatched to inspect local shops, in order to prevent the products from being sold locally.
