The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) urged the public yesterday against eating a certain batch of “Milk Chocolate with Honey and Almond Nougat” bars (100 grams) under the brand of “TOBLERONE” imported from Switzerland, due to potential plastic contamination.
The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong announced early this week that the problematic product, which has a net weight of 100 grammes and best-before-date of December 1, 2024, with batch number OOY4233553, was found to contain “plastic foreign matter”.
The Macau Health Bureau said in a statement yesterday that it has issued a food alert to warn local retailers about the product, adding that the problematic batch was currently not on sale in Macau, while also dispatching IAM officials to look out for the product.
The bureau urged both residents and the food sector to check and ensure the safety of any products, such as if the packaging and expiry dates are in order.
In addition, the statement noted that the food sector is obliged to keep the records and related documents concerning their products for a period of time so that the authorities can, if need be, track their origin and sales cycle.
