Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng promised yesterday that the government will cut unnecessary expenditures and only approve funds for projects that benefit the city.

Tam made the remarks on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of a charity event held by the Macau IN Volunteers Group at the airport.

Tam said the government had decided to subsidise the 3rd Cross-Strait Summit of Nursing Forum & Seminar which begins today because about 88 percent of the participating 260 scholars and experts are visiting from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the mainland, adding that the three-day event was beneficial to the city’s nursing profession and to its tourism industry.
