Macau exports fell 1.3 percent year-on-year to 13.3 billion patacas in 2023, while imports rose 1.2 percent to 141.4 billion patacas, resulting in a merchandise trade balance deficit of 128.1 billion patacas, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
Re-exports accounted for 88.3 percent of all exports.
Food & beverages (23.68 billion patacas), gold jewellery (14.46 billion patacas), garments and footwear (13.37 billion patacas), and beauty & cosmetic/skincare products (13.15 billion patacas) were Macau’s main import items last year.
Mobile phone imports dropped 51.7 percent to 5.26 billion patacas.
Most imported goods came from the Chinese mainland (28.6 percent), France (16.1 percent) and Italy (11.9 percent).
