A local woman has been arrested for her involvement in an unlicensed medical practice, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Chi Weng said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Lam is in her fifties. She told the police that she’s jobless.
According to Wong, on Friday afternoon, while patrolling near the General Post Office (GPO) in the city’s main square, Largo do Senado, the police saw a woman holding a sign advertising services for removing freckles and moles for 50 patacas per mole.
After consulting the Health Bureau (SS), the police confirmed that the woman did not possess any medical qualification recognised in Macau. They also found a collection of tools and ointments in Lam’s bicycle basket.
Under questioning, Lam said that the tools and ointments were purchased from the mainland. She also admitted to making some ointments herself, claiming their effectiveness in removing freckles and treating lung diseases.
She told the police that she had previously worked in a related medical field in the mainland for six months, and that Friday marked her first attempt at setting up a stall but that she had not conducted any business by the time the police intervened.
Wong noted that Lam has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where she faces a charge of unauthorised practice of a profession.
