The observatory said yesterday that under the impact of a winter monsoon, it expected northerly winds to start strengthening tomorrow, when the temperature would drop “significantly” to 9 degrees Celsius on Chinese New Year’s Eve, i.e., on Friday.

Yesterday’s statement by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) noted that the weather over the next couple of days was forecast to be “wet and cold”, with cloudy and rainy conditions expected.

The weather station said it expected a cold front to gradually approach the Guangdong coast today, when the weather in Macau would remain cloudy, along with increasingly more frequent rainfall, and that the temperature would gradually drop in the evening.

The statement pointed out that the sky on the first day of the Chinese New Year (CNY), i.e., on Saturday, was expected to gradually clear, with the weather gradually turning warmer and drier, changing it from a “wet” to “dry” feeling.

The observatory said that the winter monsoon would gradually ease during the CNY holiday, predicting that during the day it would be mainly sunny, while the temperature would gradually rise.

However, the statement added, the weather was forecast to still be cold in the morning and evening during the Chinese New Year, predicting a large temperature difference between day and night.
