The inaugural International Series Macau is slated to take place from March 14-17 at the Macau Golf & Country Club, with professional golfers Sergio García from Spain and Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell set to tee off at the event presented by Wynn Macau, according to a joint statement by the organisers.
The statement noted that the tournament is “the second of 10 elevated events on the Asian Tour that offer increased prize funds, world-class destinations, and a pathway to the LIV Golf League for golfers from all over the globe through its season-long rankings system”.
Masters champion García won the green jacket at Augusta National in 2017. He has garnered 36 tournament wins worldwide, including six on the Asian Tour in China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, the statement said. He is currently the captain of the all-Spanish Fireballs GC on the LIV Golf League.
García will line up alongside McDowell, the US Open 2010 winner who also triumphed in last November’s rooftop challenge hosted in Macau, according to the statement. LIV Golf’s Crushers GC player Anirban Lahiri from India and Asian Games gold medal winner Taichi Kho from Hong Kong are also set to feature in a strong field.
The statement said that other international golfers from the Asian Tour, the official sanctioning body for professional golf in Asia, include
Thailand’s Sarit Suwannarut, New Zealander Ben Campbell and India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar in the field for the U$2 million purse (16,126,618 patacas).
International Series Head Rahul Singh was quoted in the statement as saying: “Bringing The International Series to Macau is a milestone moment, and it is fitting that we can confirm Sergio and Graeme, two Major winners, among a strong field for our first ever event here”.
Wynn Macau Limited President and Vice Chairman of the Board Linda Chen Chih-ling said that the company is proud to sponsor the inaugural event.
