Integrated resort operator MGM yesterday launched its “Reminiscences of Barra: A Visual Journey Archives and Arts Exhibition” at Navy Yard No. 1, a signature event in the company’s revitalisation initiative “Barra Spring Fest” held at Navy Yard No. 2.
The exhibition comprises documentary materials chosen by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), along with 70 watercolours, traditional Chinese paintings and photographs by local artists, altogether showcasing Barra’s history and heritage. A statement provided at yesterday’s event noted that the exhibition also intends to “offer a widened stage for local artists to better showcase their creations to the public”.
In his speech yesterday, MGM China Holdings President and Executive Director Kenneth Feng Xiaofeng noted: “We have combined this exhibition with multiple festive experiences to create a vibrant hub in Barra district, where culture, tourism and business can collectively thrive. Our goal here is to entice more people to visit Barra via walking routes connecting the Inner Harbour and the Historic Centre of Macau, and thus further revitalising the Barra district.”
IC President Leong Wai Man said in her speech: “Through this exhibition that embraces history and local artworks, we aim to showcase the historical transitions and cultural richness of Barra district, beckoning more people to support and participate in its future development.”
Moreover, welcoming the Chinese New Year (CNY), the spring festival is where one can find workshops and flower stalls operated by local florist A.O. Flower, performances by local musicians at the Bamboo Lion Head Installation, and well-known local brands offering specialty snacks, among others throughout February.
A “Day Café & Night Bar” pop-up is also at the venue featuring local coffee shop Fill Café offering specialty coffee during the day, while Chinese tea-infused cocktails are served by creative beverage studio ASAP at night.
Barra means “harbour entrance” in Portuguese.
