Standing accused of spending public funds on renting a villa in Coloane for his personal use, former ex-chief prosecutor Ho Chio Meng insisted yesterday that it was necessary to rent the mansion in Coloane to entertain important guests and officials from outside Macau when they visited the Public Prosecution Office (MP).

Ho made the remarks in his defence on the second day of his trial by the Court of Final Appeal (TUI) yesterday.

The trial is taking place in front of a panel of three judges, comprising TUI President Sam Hou Fai, TUI judge Song Man Lei and Lai Kin Hong on secondment from the Court of Second Instance (TSI), which he heads.
