Two local men were arrested on Thursday and Friday for drunk-driving and drunk-riding respectively, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Lai, the Public Security Police received a report at 3 p.m. on Friday of a traffic accident involving a bicycle and a motorcycle at the junction of Rua Seis do Bairro Iao Hon and Rua Oito do Bairro Iao Hon, so PSP officers were dispatched to the scene, where they found the cyclist in his sixties surnamed Lam reeking of alcohol.

Lai pointed out that Lam’s alcohol concentration was 2.45 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood, while the motorcyclist passed the breathalyser.

Under questioning, Lam admitted that he had drunk alcohol during lunch.

A preliminary investigation by the police found that Lam failed to give way to the motorbike rider, causing the accident.

Meanwhile, Lai said that a man in his twenties, who was driving a car, was found reeking of alcohol when he was stopped by PSP officers in the wee hours of Thursday at a police roadblock for a regular check in Rua de Fai Chi Kei, Lai said, adding that a breathalyser test detected his alcohol concentration as 1.25 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

The two suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a drunk-riding charge and a drunk-driving charge respectively, according to Lai.
