The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is distributing reading packs to infants and toddlers in Macau from a number of public libraries. Residents can pick up the reading packs at designated libraries during office hours and no registration is required, according to a statement by the bureau yesterday.

The bureau’s “Infant and Toddler Reading Programme” was launched in July last year, and as of December last year, more than 4,600 reading packs had been distributed to infants and toddlers throughout Macau.

According to the statement, eligible infants and toddlers must be under two years old to receive the reading packs, and they must hold a Macau resident ID card and their parents must have applied for a public library reader’s card from the Cultural Affairs Bureau.

The statement noted that each reading pack contains five books suitable for children of different ages to read independently or with their parents, and that the reading packs are available in Chinese and Portuguese.

The statement noted that the reading packs are available at the Macau Central Library, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, Patane Library, Wong Ieng Kuan Children’s Library in Areia Preta Urban Park, Taipa Library, and Seac Pai Van Library.

More information can be found by calling 2893 007 or 2856 7576 during office hours or visiting www.library.gov.mo.

Members of the public can also download the bureau’s “My library” app to access library resources.
