The public Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) said in a statement yesterday that its Student Affairs Office recently organised a Spring Festival Activity to help international students experience the Chinese New Year (CNY) atmosphere.

The office said that a series of Spring Festival activities are held every year to promote “Chinese traditional culture and cultivate a joyful and positive atmosphere on campus”, with international students able to join in these activities, according to the statement.

This enables students from other countries and regions to experience the “Chinese festival culture, deepen their understanding of the essence of Chinese culture, and contribute to the creation of a platform for multicultural exchange”, the statement said.

The statement noted that during the event, students from Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe gathered at the event to celebrate the Year of the Dragon (Year of the Loong).

The students experienced CNY culture, learnt to write Spring Festival couplets, create traditional Chinese paper cutting, as well as how to make braided hand ropes (bracelets) and send CNY greetings to each other.
