The Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday warned members of the public in a statement of a phishing SMS scam involving an airline in Macau, where fraudsters running a platform purporting to be the airline’s, claim that the users’ reward points will expire soon but could be redeemed for gifts, so as to trick them into logging into the fake website to obtain their personal information and credit card details.

The statement said that the Judiciary Police has confirmed that the respective airline has not sent out such SMS messages.

The police reminded members of the public to check the authenticity and security of any website before accessing it, and not to provide any personal information in order to ensure the confidentiality of their bank accounts and credit cards.

Suspected fraud should immediately be reported to the Judiciary Police’s Anti-Fraud Enquiry hotline on 8800 7777 or the crime report hotline at 993 for assistance.
