Integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) recently organised three study tours for Form 4 students in the “Youth Science and Technology Village” programme, which is jointly organised by GEG, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DESDJ) and the Macao Science Centre (MSC), GEG said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement noted that the programme further promotes popular science education and provides three-year professional training for 100 Macau Form 4 students specialising in science and technology every year.

The study tour, which lasted three consecutive days, was part of the programme, the statement noted, and had routes and contents catering to students’ academic needs and interests, according to the statement. GEG representatives from different departments also explained the fundamentals of technology operation.

MSC Curator Sio Hon Pan and GEG Executive Vice President Buddy Lam Chi Seng participated in the event’s first day. The tour featured GEG arranging the

Diamond Show at Galaxy Macau’s Diamond Lobby for students and openly displaying its back-of-house area for the first time to give students a close-up look at the operation systems

of various performance installations.

The statement added that the students were also exposed to, and operated pertinent simulation facilities under GEG’s Facility Management representatives’ supervision and explanation, helping them “understand the internal structure and precision design of the installation, and expanded their technological horizons”.

Moreover, GEG Entertainment Operations Department’s audio-visual and network professionals  presented the programmable LED ceiling in the exhibition hall, also sharing lighting principles and the colour-coding system, according to the statement.

Students were also encouraged to experience control over the display colour and image of

the ceiling, to “reinforce their theoretical understanding of science and technology and enhance the learning effect through hands-on experience”.

A student was quoted by the statement as saying: “The interactive experiences with the different technologies that we had during the tour not only piqued our interest in the subject, but also broadened and improved our knowledge.”

Moreover, students visited other locations such as the chiller plants in the back-of-house area of Galaxy Macau, Galaxy Arena, and Galaxy Auditorium.

A chiller plant is a centralised system that cools the air for a building or for a collection of buildings and provides the air-conditioning portion of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, according to eHow.
