A contemporary art exhibition hosted at the former Municipal Cattle Stable is presenting the micro-historical narratives of the Pearl Delta Region (PRD) to visitors.

The building is located at the junction of Avenida do Coronel Mesquita and Avenida Almirante Lacerda.

The exhibition, entitled “PRD Contemporary Art Exhibition – The Old People’s Restaurant and the Sea”, is organised by Ox Warehouse in conjunction with the Beijing-based Institute for Provocation, and presents mixed media works by six artists: Yu Guo, Zhu Xiang, Cai Guojie, Lee Kai Chung, Situ Jian, and Hu Wei. Works such as videos, installations, paintings and even those created with fishing lines, as well as chess cards are among those displayed at the exhibition.

According to a recent Ox Warehouse statement, the exhibition hopes to enable visitors to gain an “understanding of the spatial imagination held by inland mountain dwellers towards the coastal areas”.

Exhibition-goers, the statement noted, may also become aware of “island-hopping” survival strategies by the residents of the coastal islands; stories of quarrying, transportation, and land reclamation with stones in this maritime region; and the historical memories of dispersal and escape within the region.

The statement added that one might also experience “the emotional roller coaster of familial histories through the perspective of an individual growing up in the area”.

The works are on display until March 24, with the venue open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. More information can be found on Ox Warehouse’s Facebook or Instagram page. One can also email oxwarehouse@gmail.com for enquiries.
