Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a statement yesterday that it  recently hosted its Responsible Gaming Hong Kong Training Tour twice, on January 16 and January 30, as part of the Sands Responsible Gaming Academy’s ongoing efforts.

The statement noted that the event aimed to support the government’s “Seeking Help for Winning the Future” responsible gaming initiatives, while enhancing attendees’ understanding of related practices being implemented in Hong Kong to help them provide better support to those in need.

Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Even Centre Supervisor Ryan Wong Hing-yan welcomed 55 Responsible Gaming Ambassadors to the leading counselling and treatment service organisation for gamblers with a gambling disorder, with the itinerary including an introduction to Even Centre and a site visit, the statement said.

The “ambassadors”, the statement added, learnt from Hong Kong’s experience in promoting responsible gaming messages to the community, such as its Anti-Gambling Ping Wo Truck, which tours around Hong Kong’s territories and schools to share anti-gambling messages and raise awareness about the harms of gambling disorder.

Peer counsellors also discussed their personal experiences with gambling disorders, the statement said, while the “ambassadors” were equipped with the skills to effectively assist those struggling with gambling addiction, according to the statement.

The statement added that a key objective of the tour was to establish connections with Hong Kong’s responsible gaming organisations and bridge resources between the two cities, enabling Sands to offer enhanced assistance to patrons.

The “ambassadors” also exchanged ideas on the causes and effects of gambling disorders, and learnt about the centre’s financial and debt management strategies.

Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai said in the statement that the company was pleased to organise the training tour for its “ambassadors”, which equipped them with “invaluable knowledge and insights into best practices”.

Moreover, participating “ambassador” Cookie Chan Wun San said: “I hope the company can bring these speakers to Macau, enabling different departments to understand problem gambling and dispel gambling myths”, as well as to continue providing them with more relevant information and knowledge.
